The nibble grouping method
A nibble is a group of four bits. To convert binary to hex, split the bits into nibbles starting from the right, pad the leftmost group with leading zeros if it has fewer than four bits, then translate each nibble to its hex digit. Take 110101110:

0001 1010 1110 ← pad left to a full nibble

Each four-bit block becomes one character with no carrying or multiplication, which is why engineers reading register dumps think in hex even though the hardware is binary.

Why padding matters
If you forget to pad the leftmost group, the digits shift and the answer is wrong. Always count from the right so the least significant nibble is complete first; only the top group may need zeros added. An 8-bit byte always yields exactly two hex digits, a 16-bit value four, and a 32-bit word eight — a quick way to confirm your grouping is correct.
