Remove Duplicate Keywords Online — Clean SEO Keyword Lists
Updated: May 2026
SEO keyword research always produces duplicate-heavy lists. You pull keywords from Ahrefs, then Semrush, then Google Search Console — and the same terms appear in all three. This page shows you how to merge and deduplicate a keyword list in seconds without any spreadsheet work.
Paste your keywords — one per line — and get a clean unique list instantly.
Clean my keyword list →Why keyword lists are always full of duplicates
The keyword research workflow almost guarantees duplicates. Each tool has its own database, and high-value keywords appear in all of them. When you export from multiple sources, you get the same terms with different volume figures, different CPC estimates, and the same keyword text repeated three or four times.
Beyond multi-source exports, keyword duplication also comes from:
- Autocomplete suggestions that appear in both "question" and "non-question" export modes.
- The same keyword with different capitalizations from different data sources.
- Keywords exported at different time periods that overlap in coverage.
- Related keyword suggestions that include the original keyword as a suggestion.
Recommended settings for keyword deduplication
Keywords have specific characteristics that make certain options more useful than others:
- Case insensitive: ON — "Running Shoes" and "running shoes" are the same keyword intent. Always enable this for keywords.
- Trim whitespace: ON — Tool exports sometimes include trailing spaces. Trim to avoid false non-duplicates.
- Keep blank lines: OFF — Remove blank rows from between keyword groups in exported files.
- Sort output: optional — Sorting alphabetically helps identify keyword clusters manually. Disable to preserve original priority order.
After deduplicating, paste the clean keyword list back into a spreadsheet and VLOOKUP the volume data from any one source. The deduplicated list becomes your master keyword file.
Merging multiple keyword sources
The standard multi-source keyword merge workflow:
- Export the keyword column (just the keywords, not the metrics) from each tool.
- Paste all exports one after another into the Flowfiles input field.
- The output gives you the unique union of all keyword sources.
- Download the clean list as a .txt file or copy it directly.
- Use this deduplicated list as the basis for your content planning or campaign targeting.
This workflow takes under two minutes for lists of several thousand keywords, compared to the multi-step import-and-formula approach in Excel.
Frequently asked questions
Can I deduplicate keywords with their volume data?
The tool works on plain text, one value per line. For keywords with metadata (volume, CPC, difficulty), export only the keyword column for deduplication, then use VLOOKUP in a spreadsheet to rejoin the metrics.
What about keyword variations like "shoe" and "shoes"?
The tool performs exact match deduplication. "Shoe" and "shoes" are different strings and will both be kept. Semantic deduplication (grouping by intent) requires a different type of tool.
How many keywords can I paste at once?
There is no hard limit. Keyword lists of 100,000+ entries are processed in milliseconds on modern devices.
