Frequently asked questions

Why does bold text work in Instagram bios and Twitter posts?

The characters generated here are not styled letters — they are entirely different Unicode code points from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block (U+1D400–U+1D7FF). Platforms like Instagram and Twitter render all Unicode characters, including these, just like they render emoji. The visual effect looks like bold or italic, but it is actually a different character altogether.

Which styles work on all platforms?

Bold, Bold Italic, Sans-Serif Bold and Monospace are the most universally supported. Script and Fraktur styles render correctly on iOS, Android 9+, macOS, and Windows 10+, but may appear as boxes on older devices. Strikethrough and Underline use Unicode combining characters, which sometimes render inconsistently in messaging apps.

Does this affect SEO or screen readers?

Yes — screen readers may read Unicode math letters as individual code point names rather than letters. For public web content, use real CSS bold/italic instead. Unicode styles are best for social media bios, posts, display names, and chat messages where HTML formatting is not available.

Can I use this in WhatsApp, Telegram, or Discord?

Yes. All three apps render Unicode mathematical letters correctly. Paste the converted text as you would any other message. Discord also has its own Markdown formatting (** for bold, * for italic), but Unicode styles let you bypass that and use styles in places where Markdown is not supported, such as display names.

Why do some digits not convert?

Not all Unicode math styles have a corresponding set of digits. Italic and Bold Italic, for example, have no official digit equivalents in the Unicode standard — only letters. Styles that include digits (Bold, Double-Struck, Sans-Serif variants, Monospace) will convert digits; others leave them unchanged.
